You probably know that “blog” is a combination of “web” and “log,” and you’ve probably heard of a “captain’s log” but did you know that term literally once meant “a chunk of wood”?

News to me.

That article also mentions how the term “knots” became a measurement of nautical speed. Literally, they used to be knots in a rope.
